Blumen sprechen ihre eigene Sprache. Jede von ihnen hat etwas Bestimmtes zu sagen. Während die Amaryllis Stolz verkörpert, symbolisiert Efeu die Beständigkeit. Iris ist der Vorbote guter Nachrichten. Und die Glyzine sagt „Sei gegrüßt, willkommen“. Vornehme, edle Schönheit ist ein Zeichen der Orchidee, wogegen die Ringelblume für Schmerz und Trauer steht. Zu guter Letzt im A bis Z der Pflanzensymbolik steht die diskrete Blüte des Zitronenbaumes. Wird ein Zitronenzweig überreicht, möchte man den Beschenkten bitten, Verschwiegenheit zu wahren. Und dann gibt es den Akanthus, umgangssprachlich auch Bärenklau genannt – die blumige Umschreibung für Kunst.
Annik spricht die Sprache der Blumen. Ihr gehört der Blumenladen „Acanthe Fleurs“ in der Rue Geiler Nr. 19 in Straßburg, in dem neben prächtigen Schnittblumen und Zierpflanzen exquisite Dekoartikel, Einrichtungsgegenstände und Geschenkartikel zu finden sind. Bei „Acanthe“ lässt Annik aus Blumen Kunst werden – sei es in der puristisch-natürlichen Form, in der eine Blumensorte die Schönheit dominiert oder in üppig arrangierten Bouquets.
Annik hat sich nicht nur in der Blumenkomposition, sondern über ihr Studium der Kunstgeschichte und anschließend ihrer Arbeit am Musée des Artes décoratifs/Louvre auch in der Kunstgeschichte perfektioniert. Und so ist es fast schon eine glückliche Schicksalsfügung, dass ausgerechnet Akanthus eine Brücke von Anniks in Paris erworbenem Wissen über Kunst und Kunstgeschichte zum artistischen Handwerk bei „Acanthe“ geschlagen hat. Das distelartige Blatt des Akanthus ist nämlich nicht nur ein bildhafter Ausdruck für Kunst, sondern findet sich in stilisierter Form in der Kunsthistorik als architektonisches Ornament an Säulen, Decken, Gebäudeteilen oder Kirchenaltären wieder.
Wir haben uns gefreut, bei unserem letzten Besuch in Straßburg Annik zu begegnen, die uns ihre Leidenschaft für Blumen sowohl in ihrem Zuhause als auch bei „Acanthe“ gezeigt und erklärt hat.

Flowers speak their own language. Each of them has to say something particular. And every one of them uses the interpretation skills of the floral ABC. Whilst the amaryllis embodies pride, ivy symbolises endurance. The iris is a harbinger of good news. The blossom of a lemon tree is very secretive. Offering a flowering twig of a lemon tree, means to ask the donee to keep confidentiality. Marigold represents pain and grief, orchids on the other hand are symbols of refined beauty. Almost at the very end of the alphabet of plant symbolism there is wisteria, saying “Welcome, step in”. And then there is acanthus – the flowery representation of art.
Annik speaks the language of flowers. It is the flower shop “Acanthe Fleurs” located in no. 19 rue Geiler in Strasbourg she calls her own, where you can find next to splendid fresh cut flowers and ornamental plants, exquisite decorative objects, furnishings as well as giftware. At “Acanthe” Annik creates art out of florals – be it in puristic-natural style, where only one type of flower forms the beauty, or lushly arranged bouquets.
Annik perfected her skills not only in floral composition but during her studies and work at Musée des Artes décoratifs/Louvre in Paris. And the fact that of all things it was acanthus that build a bridge from Annik’s gained knowledge of art to her artistic craft at „Acanthe“, seems like a lucky twist of fate. It is the spiny leave of acanthus which is not only a vivid expression for art, it’s stylized form is also deeply entrenched within art history as architectural ornament on pillars, ceilings, building sections or church altars.
We were delighted to make an encounter with Annik at our last visit in Strasbourg who explained and showed us her passion for florals not only at her home but also at “Acanthe Fleurs”.

Chez Annik
Anniks privates Wohnambiente zeichnen große, lichtdurchflutete Räume. Schlichte Möbel im Retro-Stil, luftige Regale, ausgewählte Dokoartikel, Blumen wie auch Kunst in expressiven und doch zurückhaltenden Pastellfarben akzentuieren den Wohnbereich. Der Dreh- und Angelpunkt im Raum bildet aber das solitäre Bild des deutschen Künstlers Klaus Stoeber, der ebenfalls in Straßburg lebt.
Annik’s home living ambience are characterized by large rooms that are bathed in light. Modest furniture in retro style, airy shelves, selected decorative items, flowers as well as art in expressive and yet restrained pastel colors accentuate the living area. The decorative center of the room, however, is a solitary painting of the German painter Klaus Stoeber who also lives in Strasbourg.
Chez Acanthe Fleurs
Betritt man „Acanthe Fleurs“, findet man sich in einem Paradies wieder – Düfte und Farben stimulieren die Sinne. Das Atelier, in dem Blumen arrangiert werden, ist im satten Purpur von Dahlien gehalten. Als Hintergrundfarbe für Porzellan und Keramik dient kräftiges Blau, der Farbe des Rittersporns und des Bayrischen Enzians. Dekorationsartikel und Stoffe präsentieren sich vor einem dunklem Blaugrau – der einzigen Farbe, die in der Blumenwelt nicht existiert.
Entering „Acanthe Fleurs“ you’ll find yourself in a paradise where scents and colors stimulate the senses. The wall of the studio where flowers are carefully arranged is held in the rich purple of dahlias. The background color for porcelain and ceramics is a strong blue, the color of larkspur and the Bavarian gentian. Decorative items and materials present themselves in front of a dark blue-gray – the only color that does not exist in the world of flowers.
